A new WWE World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned at Survivor Series -- ESPN just announced Seth Rollins injured his knee in Dublin and will be out of action for 6-9 months.

Former WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman broke the news on Twitter ... saying Rollins suffered right ACL/MCL/medial meniscus tears -- and a World Heavyweight tournament for a new champ would be held later this month at the upcoming PPV.

No word yet as to who will be in the tournament.

For those who missed it, Seth Rollins clearly injured his knee Wednesday in Ireland while wrestling Kane ... after a bad landing during a sunset flip attempt off the top rope caused his knee to buckle.
